Thirty grams of protein in a sitting is not a bodybuilding number. It is the rough serving that gets enough leucine across the line to switch muscle protein synthesis on. On a GLP-1, it is also the meal people cannot finish.
That is the hard part. Not the daily total on a spreadsheet. The sitting. Here is the threshold in plain language, the hacks that work when appetite is a rumour, and a table of protein per 100 kcal so you stop wasting the window on toast.
| Food | Protein per 100 kcal, roughly | Why it wins on a small plate |
|---|---|---|
| Egg whites, or most of a 0% Greek yoghurt | 15 to 20 g | The highest density you will actually eat |
| White fish, prawns, chicken breast | 15 to 20 g | Easy to portion small. Dry if you overcook it |
| Eggs, cottage cheese, 5 to 10% yoghurt | 8 to 12 g | The everyday version. Fat helps it go down |
| Tofu, lentils | 7 to 10 g | Fine if they sit. Volume can be the problem |
| Bread, oats, banana | 2 to 4 g | Not useless. Not the first thing on the plate |
The leucine threshold, without the lecture
Muscle does not add up protein across the day and issue a refund. Each meal either clears a threshold or it does not. The amino acid that does the triggering is leucine, about 2.5 to 3 g, which in practice is 25 to 40 g of good protein in one sitting. Eight grams at breakfast and 80 at dinner is one qualifying burst. Three meals at 30 is three.
On a GLP-1 the 80 g dinner is the one you cannot finish. So the old pattern dies, and nothing replaces it unless you design breakfast.
Hacks for a small appetite
- Greek yoghurt first, fruit second. If the fruit dies, you still had 15 to 20 g.
- Eggs on the days toast is all you want. Two eggs on the toast, not the toast alone.
- A protein shake if, and only if, food lost. It is a patch.
- Cottage cheese or leftover fish as the "I am not hungry but I can do six spoons" meal.
Creatine is not in this table because it is not protein. Take it anyway. The training those qualifying meals are paying for still needs the reservoir. Creatine Daily Gummies are the daily that does not use any of the appetite budget: two gummies, 5 g monohydrate.
The plate that sits around this table is how much to eat on GLP-1. The muscle share is in you are losing muscle too.
