Constipation on Wegovy, Mounjaro or Ozempic is common enough that people treat it as the price of admission. It is not a character flaw and it is not mysterious. Motility slows. You are eating less bulk. You are often drinking less because thirst went quiet at the same time as hunger.
The fix is fibre and fluid, ramped like a dose, not dumped in on a Sunday. We do not sell fibre sachets. The kitchen already has the tools. The night is where this becomes our problem, because a week of not going is a week of sleeping badly.
| Soluble fibre | Insoluble fibre | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Holds water, softens the stool, usually the gentler first move | Adds bulk and speeds transit, easier to overdo |
| Food versions | Oats, kiwi, chia, psyllium, beans if they still sit well | Wholewheat, skins, bran, raw salad in quantity |
| How to ramp | One new source, four days, then another | After soluble is already in, not as the opening move |
| What goes wrong | Too little water, so it sets rather than softens | Bloating and cramping on a stomach that is already slow |
Why motility slows
GLP-1 signalling slows the gut as well as the stomach. Less food means less stretch, which means less of the reflex that keeps things moving. Add a sudden drop in fibre because the sandwich and the apple disappeared together, and you have the classic month-one pattern: three days, then five, then a bad weekend.
The fibre-and-fluid fix, without a sachet
-
Water first, then fibre
Fibre without fluid is a plug. If urine is dark, fix that for two days before you add oats. Sip. Do not chug on a nauseous morning.
-
One soluble source, not a fibre challenge
Two kiwis, or overnight oats, or a teaspoon of psyllium in yoghurt if you already keep it. Hold that for four days. If bloating stays loud, you went too fast, not too little.
-
Walk after meals, and do not ignore the night
Ten minutes of walking after the main meal is a motility tool. So is not lying down immediately. If you are sleeping in fragments because you are uncomfortable, treat the night as part of the same problem. SleepHit will not move the bowel. It will keep the last hour from becoming another hour of lying there doing the maths. One stick, 8 to 12 oz, 30 to 60 minutes before bed.
When it is not a fibre problem
No stool for a week, blood, vomiting, or pain that is new and sharp: call the prescriber. Some people need a short course of something the doctor chooses. That is not a failure of oats.
Dehydration is the neighbour of this article. Read headaches and fatigue in month one if the constipation arrived with a headache.
